As a team of five engineers we built an Autonomous Solar Panel that tracks the sun during the day and returns to prepare for the next days sunrise. The idea is to gain the full potential of the solar panel by always pointing it directly at the sun. We worked together to deign the mechanism which would rotate the solar panel.  The design was two columns holding a metal rod attached to two semicircles at each end holding up the solar panel. Then it was drawn and tested in SolidWorks. For the electronics components we went with a simple design of one actuator, an LDR sensor and a 12V car battery for power. The Arduino was programmed to move the actuator every 30 minute and find the brightest light source in the sky using the LDR sensor. At dawn the actuator would move the solar panel back to its original position ready for the next day.
